I have two major creative activities: writing and fabric art. I have done them since I was a child. I embroidered the center of the art quilt when I was five; the border I created four years ago from 1940s vintage fabrics.
I can only do one creative activity in some unspecified but clear to me time period. I can copy-edit my writing and hand-stitch facings on my quilts on the same afternoon because neither of those require much creative energy. But I can’t write something new or design an art quilt on the same day—maybe even the same week. Do any of you have trouble doing two different kinds of creative activities in a close time frame? How do you balance your creative energies?
